Marcus Fabrics and Prints Charming – “Light, Bright and Whimsical”

Marcus Fabrics is pleased to announce a design partnership with Australia-based textile firm, Prints Charming. The two-woman operation specializes in bright, spirited designs with a youthful tone, and their first collection for Marcus, TWO YOUNG STREET, beautifully captures the mood.

The adjustment from screen printing individual yards of fabric to higher volume production affords Prints Charming the opportunity to reach a wider audience, worldwide. The team felt that Marcus’ approach to this segment of the market was the right match for their designs. The line of playful, oversized flowers and geometrics is printed on fine quality poplin, a fabrication that lends itself to quilts as well as apparel, home furnishings and fashion accessories, and with Prints Charming’s signature style. Colorways include clear brights, a black and taupe combination, and blue with red that’s just-right for the boys.

From the trim little shopfront to the true-hearted patterns to the candid manner of co-founders Kirsten Junor and Cath Derksema, the Prints Charming label is a study in easy-going confidence. Prints Charming’s partnership with Marcus is a natural progression for the young business - a fairytale, you might say - but not entirely unexpected according to Cath, who theorizes that the youth and originality of the local (Australian) product is at last making an impression on an international market that is ready for something new. “I think the American quilter will really enjoy our designs because they are fresh and different, with their own personality -- our mood is light, bright and whimsical!

Though Prints Charming’s fabric designs for Marcus will now be available to patchwork and quilting communities worldwide, Cath and Kirsten also continue to produce functional wares like bags, dresses, pillow cases and lampshades. Kirsten sums up: “We’re both absolutely passionate about this.”
