Sanchia Gair

Red Brolly is an Australia-based quilt and embroidery pattern company and sewing lifestyle blog. It began in 2001 with the publishing of Bronwyn Hayes' first book, Sunshine in Your Pocket. Having spent her life designing, teaching and drawing, she wrote the book as a way to share her 20 years of experience in patchwork, and her love for sewing, quilting and embroidery.

Her daughter Sanchia later joined the business around 2009, having found herself a stay at home mum and still needing to feel productive. Together they grew the business, writing and publishing their own quilt patterns and designing regularly for Homespun Magazine, Kindred Stitches, Quiltmania and many online blogs.

"Our blog, now in its seventh year, is a way of sharing craft and sewing ideas, quilting inspiration, embroidery tips and tutorials, lifestyle ideas and recipes," says Sanchia, who lives in a small, picturesque country town, in southern New South Wales, Australia. She goes by several labels depending on the day and the mood - designer, mother, wife, blogger, baker, crafter, chicken raiser, sewer, photographer, 80's music lover, runner, writer, editor, and kitchen dance partier... just to name a few!

Sanchia was raised to sew, draw and create from an early age. Throughout her childhood she was drawing, colouring and painting, sewing little dolls clothes and doing arts and crafts with her mother. She loves the creativity that the blog brings into her life each day, the new things she learns, the pretty fabrics she gets to work with and the freedom it gives to be still involved in her children's lives. Now in her 6th year with Red Brolly, she designs, writes and publishes patterns, travels to Houston Quilt Festival and has recently completed several art and design courses. Now, Sanchia is especially excited to add "fabric designer" to her many roles and passions.

About CHASING WAVES - Red Brolly's debut collection for Studio 37 Fabrics is inspired by Sanchia's childhood summers on the beautiful Sunshine Coast of Australia. "We still love the beach and the outdoor lifestyle that summer brings and we love to holiday there frequently." The collection blends these special memories with vintage children's book motifs, a love for colour and a passion to create.
